Carnival Spirit, Kahului

Kahului 2, Maui - April 21 - Wed - Depart 6pm

Signed up for this (through the ship): http://www.mvprince.com/tripsMolokini.htm

The Carnival Tour is called: Snorkel Adventure - 11:30am - 3:30pm {$120}

Join the friendly and experienced staff onboard the M/V Prince Kuhio for a scenic ride out to one of the many snorkel sites along West Maui’s stunning coastline.

On this excursion you will:

  • Keep your eyes open for whales, green sea turtles and dolphins.
  • Snorkel one or two sites, including world famous Molokini Crater, Turtle Arches and Olowalu.
  • Spend between 45 minutes to an hour total in the water.
  • Enjoy fruit juices, water and dry snacks that are offered once you have finished snorkeling, feel free to help yourself to the complimentary beer and wine from the bar for the ride back to Ma’alaea Bay.

Well, we'll see if this excursion actually goes. There was no bus, no Carnival representative, no nothing on the pier at the appointed time. It seems the excursion time was "changed" and nobody bothered to tell us.

They claim they sent out a notice, but we received NOTHING.

Not only did we schedule things around the excursion, but more critical items such as medications were adjusted for the tour times. Plus we could have skipped a hurried breakfast and instead had a more pleasant lunch.

Carnival screwed up on this one.

More to follow.

Ok, more...

1) Carnival should told us not only the tour time had changed, but also the boat, tour description, and just about everything else. One of the reasons for paying inflated prices for cruise ship tours is the details are taken care of for us. It isn't our job. Not only did we waste considerable time trying to find a non-existent excursion but then wasted more on finding out if we still had an excursion and if so, when?

2) The tickets should have been reprinted with the correct information on it and distributed. It is ingrained upon us to follow the information on the tickets. Carnival had sufficient time to reprint the tickets.

3) There are a number of means to communicate with passengers on the ship. Something this important should have been better communicated. Writing a memo that may or may not get distributed is tossing the issue over the wall and trying to transfer ownership of the problem from Carnival to the customer.

This episode has greatly diminished the value of booking overpriced cruise ship tours to me, and I will be having second thoughts before booking any more cruise ship excursions in the future.

------

On the plus side we did end up on an excursion, just not not one that we bought via internet pre-sale, nor even the one listed in the published shore excursion list available on the ship. Only 17 people ended up on the excursion and we did snorkel. Just not in any of the advertised locations.

The excursion we were on did not offer the free beer and wine as advertised and due to the late departure and arrival back at the ship, we missed the free cocktails tonight. This may help us feel better for our early morning Carnival VIP Pearl Harbor tour, unless Carnival managed to mangle that one as well.
